Night On The Lake

15 09 2009

I have driven by this small lake for years but never took the time to stop and photograph it.

I was driving home one evening and wasn’t in any hurry so I decided to stop and set up my camera and tripod to see what I could capture. It was a cool September evening but it was clear with calm water conditions which I figured could produce some nice reflections.

The first photo was taken shortly after sunset and was a 30 second exposure that produce a beautiful blue tone to it.

The second photo was taken about 25 minutes later or so when it was much darker. The exposure lasted almost 5 minutes which allowed me to pick up the movement of an early star in the sky and the lights of passing traffic on the road to the right.

Shoreline Sunset

While enjoying a day off work late in September I grabbed my camera and took a walk along the shore of Lake Ontario.

It was a breezy and partly cloudy day following an earlier storm and the clouds had begun to break up enough to provide for a possible sunset photo. The sun was still fairly high but as you probably know it sinks rather quickly on the last day of September.

I managed to take a couple dozen shots with this photo being my favourite from the effort.

Lakeside Vista

I found myself walking along the shoreline one evening at sunset and when I saw how the tree looked against the sky I thought it might make a nice silhouette shot.

I think it makes for a nice peaceful and simple capture.

Web Of Sunshine

I was going through quite the dry spell with my photography. I wasn’t feeling very motivated to grab my camera or venture out to see what I could find.

One evening I was at the trailer and decided to head down by a marsh just to see the sun set. I hadn’t taken any sunset photos for almost a year and thought maybe I could motivate myself by taking one of my favourite types of nature shots.

It was a partly cloudy night and the sky was nearly perfect for a nice shot. I noticed this patch of tall weeds and the remains of a spider web and I thought this might make for an interesting shot. I think I was right as I was happy with the end result.

Sun Setting Serenity

I love taking photos of sunsets. For me it’s always the most interesting light of the day and provides so many wonderful opportunities to capture some amazing colours as well.

On this particular occasion I set up my tripod on a picnic table located on the beach and took about 50 photos from the time the sun was still up until it set.

I would have been much happier if the water had been smooth as glass and provided a better reflection and the contrail from a passing airplane wasn’t in the shot but I was still pleased with the final result.
