Spring Is Blooming

27 04 2008

After a long winter it’s nice to not only get outside in the warmth but to find sure signs that Spring has officially arrived.

I grabbed my camera and made visit to my flowerbed behind the house and found several different flowers blooming.

This is one photo I snapped that I was pleased with the result.

Canada Day Fireworks

16 04 2008

I had never tried to properly photograph a fireworks display before when Canada Day 2007 rolled around. Armed with my Nikon, remote and tripod I scoped out a prime location to give it a go.

The experiment seemed to work out pretty good as I came away with some great long exposure shots of the evenings spectacle. I was later contacted by the gentleman who was responsible for launching the shells and the company he bought the fireworks from for permission to use my photos. I guess someone like what they saw.

Monarch On Flower

13 04 2008

On a hot August day we ventured out to take some photos of butterflies. They are always plentiful at that time of year.

This Monarch butterfly was kind enough to feed just long enough for me to capture this photo. They weren’t always this cooperative.

Sun Setting Serenity

11 04 2008

I love taking photos of sunsets. For me it’s always the most interesting light of the day and provides so many wonderful opportunities to capture some amazing colours as well.

On this particular occasion I set up my tripod on a picnic table located on the beach and took about 50 photos from the time the sun was still up until it set.

I would have been much happier if the water had been smooth as glass and provided a better reflection and the contrail from a passing airplane wasn’t in the shot but I was still pleased with the final result.

Heaven’s Light

On the same day I took the Driftwood by Lake photo I also managed to take this photo as well.

With the storm clouds blocking out the sunlight, there were just a couple of openings which allowed the sun to shine through like spotlights on the earth below.

I have tried some High Dynamic Range post processing on the photo to give it some added pop and to bring out greater and more interesting detail. I was happy with the effect I achieved.
